# Initial setup

DigitalFyre bare metal servers are built to order. Every server is custom-configured to your specifications, and the operating system is installed and configured by DigitalFyre before delivery.

## Ordering Process

Bare metal servers are not self-service. The ordering process is consultative:

**1. Contact DigitalFyre**

Reach out via sales or support to discuss your requirements.

**2. Specification**

Work with the team to define your hardware (CPU, RAM, storage, network uplink, GPU if needed), datacenter location, and operating system.

**3. Provisioning**

DigitalFyre builds and configures the server to your specifications.

**4. Delivery**

You receive access credentials, and your server is ready to use.

The typical provisioning lead time is **three to five business days**, depending on the datacenter location and hardware availability.

## What DigitalFyre Configures

Before handing the server over, DigitalFyre:

* Installs and configures the operating system to your specifications
* Assigns your IP addresses (/29 IPv4 included by default)
* Configures network connectivity
* Enables out-of-band management (iKVM access)
* Sets up default ICMP monitoring on your primary IP

## After Delivery

Once your server is delivered:

1. **Log in to the customer portal** at `console.digitalfyre.com` to view your server details
2. **Check the Access Credentials tab** for your root/admin login
3. **Connect via SSH** using your primary IP and credentials
4. **Change your password** immediately after first login
5. **Apply any pending OS updates**

**Ubuntu / Debian**

```bash lines theme={"theme":{"light":"light-plus","dark":"ayu-dark"}}
apt update && apt upgrade -y
```

**AlmaLinux / Rocky Linux / RHEL**

```bash lines theme={"theme":{"light":"light-plus","dark":"ayu-dark"}}
dnf update -y
```

## Non-Refundable

Bare metal servers are custom-built physical hardware provisioned specifically for you. They are non-refundable. If you want to test DigitalFyre's network quality before committing, spin up a VPS (which runs on the same backbone) or use the [Looking Glass](https://glass.digitalfyre.com) for ping tests from each datacenter location.
