# Transferring a Domain In

You can transfer domains registered at another registrar to DigitalFyre. The transfer adds one year to your domain's registration period.

## Prerequisites

Ensure the following at your **current registrar** before initiating a transfer:

| Requirement                   | Details                                                                       |
| ----------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Domain is unlocked** | Registrar lock must be disabled |
| **Domain is 60+ days old** | Domains registered less than 60 days ago cannot be transferred (ICANN policy) |
| **No recent contact changes** | Changing registrant contact information locks the domain for 60 days |
| **EPP code obtained** | Request the authorization/EPP code from your current registrar |
| **Domain is not expired** | Expired domains cannot be transferred — renew first if needed |

## Transfer Timeline

Domain transfers typically complete within **5 to 7 days**:

| Stage               | Details                                                                    |

| Request initiated | DigitalFyre submits the transfer request to the registry |
| Approval email sent | Your current registrar emails the registrant for approval |
| Approval | Approving speeds up the process; most registrars auto-approve after 5 days |

## After Transfer

Once the transfer is complete:

* Configure your [nameservers](/domains/management/nameservers)
* Enable [registrar lock](/domains/management/registrar-lock)
* Enable [ID Protection](/domains/management/id-protection)
* Verify [contact information](/domains/management/contact-information)
* Enable [auto-renewal](/domains/management/auto-renew)

<Warning>
  DNS records from your previous registrar do not transfer automatically. If you were using your previous registrar's DNS, you must recreate your records using either DigitalFyre's [DNS Manager](/client-portal/dns/dns-manager) or another DNS provider before changing nameservers. Failing to do this will result in downtime for your website and email.
</Warning>
