What Changes During an Upgrade

ResourceWhat Happens
CPU and MemoryUpdated to the new plan’s allocations. A brief restart may be required.
StorageExpanded to the new plan’s allocation. Existing data is preserved.
BandwidthMonthly allowance updated immediately.
IP addresses, OS, files, databasesUnchanged.

Downgrades

Downgrades are not available through the Client Portal. Virtual disks cannot be shrunk without risking data loss. If you need to move to a smaller plan, contact support at console.digitalfyre.com. The typical approach is to provision a new VPS on the smaller plan and migrate your data across.

When to Upgrade

Check your Server Statistics and consider upgrading when:
  • CPU or memory usage is consistently above 80%
  • Your application is slowing under normal load
  • You are running low on disk space
  • You are regularly approaching your bandwidth limit

Important Information on Downgrades

Downgrades are not available for self-service. Because virtual disk allocations cannot be reduced without risking data loss, moving to a smaller plan requires provisioning a new VPS and migrating your data. Contact support at console.digitalfyre.com, and we will help you through the process.
