Private nameservers (also called child nameservers or glue records) let you create custom nameserver hostnames under your own domain, such as ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com.

When You Need This

Private nameservers are used when you want to run your own DNS infrastructure and have your nameservers identified by your domain name rather than a third party’s. Common use cases include hosting providers, resellers, and anyone running their own authoritative DNS servers.

Registering a Private Nameserver

1

Navigate to Private Nameservers

Open your domain’s management page and click Private Nameservers in the left sidebar.
2

Enter Details

Under Register a NameServer Name, enter the hostname prefix (e.g., ns1) and the IP address the nameserver resolves to.
3

Save

Click Save Changes. The nameserver is registered as a glue record at the registry level.

Modifying a Private Nameserver

If the IP address of your nameserver changes:
1

Open Modify Section

Under Modify a NameServer IP, enter the hostname prefix, the current IP address, and the new IP address.
2

Save

Click Save Changes.

Deleting a Private Nameserver

1

Open Delete Section

Under Delete a NameServer, enter the hostname prefix to remove.
2

Save

Click Save Changes.
Before deleting a private nameserver, ensure no domains are currently pointing to it. Deleting a nameserver that is actively in use will cause DNS resolution failures for any domain relying on it.
